As parents, we know how powerful our children’s interests can be when it comes to learning. My daughter loves baking and arts & crafts, so I decided to incorporate her passions into teaching her Afrikaans!
Baking: We use Afrikaans recipes for our baking sessions. Not only does she practice the language, but she also enjoys a sweet reward for her effort!
Arts & Crafts: I found an Afrikaans arts and crafts book where all the instructions are in Afrikaans. It’s hands-on, engaging, and a fun way to immerse her in the language.
This method can work with any language (or subject). Take what your child loves—sports, music, gaming—and use it as a creative teaching tool. The results are amazing when learning feels like play!
Tip for Parents: Be creative and think outside the box. Combine their interests with learning, and watch how it sparks their curiosity and enthusiasm!
